Joe The Plumber - Finally, a Reason

I've been less than enthusiastic about the upcoming Presidential election, but late in the process the McCain campaign has given me a little more hope. It's in the form of the infamous "Joe the Plumber."

Do you know this story? Joe the plumber is a real guy. He's a plumber and is in the process of owning his own plumbing business. It just so happened that Barrack Obama was in his neighborhood and took the time to talk to the people. Joe asked Senator Obama about his tax plan that would tax him more if he were to make more money, thus making it harder for him to grow his business. Senator Obama's response was that it was ok to "share the wealth" a little:

Here's a great Opinion piece from Michael Barone in US News & World Reports:

This is the major difference between Obama and McCain and continues to be one of the differences between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party.

At some point after the Obama - Joe the Plumber meeting, Joe was interviewed on ABC's Good Morning America:

If you needed a rallying call to get behind a candidate, here it is. If you support the socialist idea of sharing the wealth, then Obama is your man. If you don't then pull the lever (or push the button) for McCain. It's an important choice to make.

I am glad to not have to make this choice, being Canadian.

I am in shock and awe at the media circus that has developed around this poor guy. He's suddenly a celeb. What in the world is that about?!

Hey Shay:

I'm pretty sure that ACORN, the questionable voter-registration group that Obama has been associated with, actually registered some Canadians for the vote--and I think they're deceased. :)

OBAMA + DEM CONG = USA RIP

Hello, Ted. I'm not sure that an Obama administration along with a democratic congress equals the end of the USA. We've had a Clinton Presidency + Democratic Congress and we survived. However, it will not be a fun time.

It has been my strongest desire to avoid politics in the blog world, especially with my campaign fatigue that began 37 seconds after the first candidate declared in January of 2007. I cannot possibly vote for Senator Obama, if for no other reason than his promise to sign into law the "right" to an abortion. There are so many other reasons on top of that, socialism being one of them. It must be McCain. And since the Democratic Party resurrected the old Dan Quayle saw about the VP being a heartbeat away from the oval office, I ask, “And your point is?” I would never wish ill of Senator McCain, but the prospect of a Palin presidency is far more appealing than a McCain presidency.

What about Mark & Jamie the Non-Profit Workers who have to worry about the government cutting funding that will cost us our jobs?

For the first time in a while, I don't want to vote for any of the current candidates. If it were Biden v. Palin then my choice would be a littel more clear.

Isn't it funny how neither of the candidates could answer a direct question during the last debate. Both of them have something to hide and I'm scared to find out what it is.

My best friend compared this election to choosing between forced to be contaminated with the Ebola virus or having Cancer. Both are horrible diseases but at least with some chemo you could survive cancer.

Well cool then. So after I die, I can vote in your elections? Good to know!

Oh and pst...km = kilometers as in the metric unit of measurement we use for distance in Canada. A half marathon is 13 miles or 21 kms. (there are 1.6 of the crazy things in a mile).

I really liked what this guy has to say. I saw a 10 minute interview (uncut) on MSNBC and he had me all fired up.

But after yesterdays announcement about Colin Powell, I am down again- thinking that is just too big a plug in Obamas campaign

How great is Joe?! I love that he is well spoken, personable and intelligent. Not always the type that the media picks to rep that view point.

I've wanted to stay out of politics and the blogging world too (like Arby) and it's a little late in the game I suppose, but it's hitting me how important it is to say what needs to be said. It's a given no candidate is perfect. (That doesn't stop people from getting married or making other choices in life.) But in this case you called it....if you want Socialism, vote Obama. The thing that scares me the most about him is the whole Saviour complex and the devotion being shown him by so many. He's going to SAVE US! And bring CHANGE and HOPE!

Omg that just scares the crap out of me.
