Fun With Names

I've encountered some interesting names in my lifetime. I went to school with girls named Dusty Knuckles and Crystal Waters. There was a guy with the last name Horney and another girl whose last name was "Loser" (pronounced LOW-zhur). A few years ago I worked with a guy named Bob Albaugh and whenever he said his name it sounded like Ba-Ba-Baa.

But yesterday at work we received a call from a customer whose name was spelled this way...

La-Sha.

She spelled out her name over the phone and then proceeded to tell us how it was pronounced. Any guess on how to correctly say it? I will reveal the correct answer in a few days.

/la-SHAY/

I'm just guessing. One of my brothers had a teacher in high school named Jack Daniels.

Pronounce it, "La-day-sha." I've also seen it written as La-a.

Matt Brown nailed it. She told us it was pronounced "La DASH uh".

Oh, wow. Just... wow.

It's pronounced, "Hey, you!"

My mother knew of a young girl named "Placenta." The girl's mother overheard the word in the hospital when she went in for delivery and thought it sounded pretty.

My neighbor worked at a prison reform organization. she ran into two brothers that worked there. their names were pronounced "Lah-mon-gel-o" and "Or-ahn-gel-o"...
spelled "Lemonjello" and "orangejello".

Then there was the woman my mom encountered while working at a hospital. Her newborn boy was named after its father. The father's name was John. The child's name was Flazy. as in F****in Lazy.

I've heard the stories of "Lemonjello" and "Orangejello" many times--to the point that I wonder if they are true or have become part of urban legend. But I can vouch for La-Sha and many of you have seen it as well.

Has everyone also heard the "Nosmo King" name?

I wonder if that one is real or is an urban legend.

Had an employee once named Latrina (who does that to their kid?)
And another who named his daughter Dijonnaise.

"Nosmo King" comes from the Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary. Ramona is trying to get her father to quit in one of the books, including badly written "No Smoking" signs.

Found you via Cake Wrecks!

That reminds me...a while back in the Indianapolis Star there was a quote from a guy at GenCon whose last name was Butzlaff.

I found you from cakewrecks, too! I used to work in a bank and we were supposed to greet our regulars by name. Sorry, but I just couldn't say Hi, Mr. Butts, Mr. Dick, or Mr. Finger.

How on earth do get la-DASH-uh from....oh nevermind.

I think Ba-Ba-Ba is much funnier than "dash".

I knew of two brothers called Andrew and Peter Nuss.

No big deal, until you try to read their first initial and surname on a roll...

Just found your blog via cake wrecks and it is so funny. I saw an article in our local paper with a photo of a family. The new baby was named Ta-da. Why people??
