As I write this there are four little neighborhood girls in my house playing with my youngest daughter. We sometimes refer to this as "The Little Girls Club." It can get very loud and I have to admit that I was looking forward to having some quiet time to write, read and play guitar, but I realize that this is the right thing to do. Being hospitable extends beyond the people that I might invite over to hang out. Plus, it's good to know that she's here in my house where I know what goes on. I don't have to worry about what other parents may allow in their house.
Can I get sued if they get hurt jumping off my roof as long as I put my beer down when I try to catch them? Of course I'm kidding. I can catch them fine with one hand. :)
But seriously, this is some LOUD stuff. There's also a lot of moving around. It's almost running, so I'm closely monitoring it. And I admit, I just put headphones on. That helped a lot.

You have a better chance at covering your liability if you clench the beer bottle between your teeth and catch the children with two hands. This also allows you to tilt back your head and take a swig without taking your eyes off of the falling target. If you are drinking beer out of a can then you deserve anything you get!
Oy! I'm flashing forward to next week. One of my wife's closest friends from back in their "pregnant with infants" days is coming to visit. With three of her four children. For three days.
Why on earth did I not manage to schedule a trip out of town next week!?!?!
I've never used my Bose sound-reducing headphones at home (just on planes), but next week may be a first.
Have fun!
I forgot to add one thing to the Little Girls Club that happened. At around 7:30 I got a knock on the door as the girls were getting ready to walk out the door (and then walk back in and then back out, etc., etc.--you know how this goes if you have little ones around). A young man was standing there wanting to sell me an Avon High School football team card for discounts at area restaurants. He was about as "normal" looking as it gets these days. He was also clean and, well...just normal. That's what I'm trying to stress. Well, one of the Little Girls Club members (the cutest one besides my own daughter) looks way up at him and says, "You look poor."
This morning was like that here. Some of the neighbourhood kids were out back on the tramp with our kids. There was much screaming and yelling and jumping and running and chasing. Loud. very.
Hope you are enjoying your summer, take care,
Kristen
I remember those days all too well! Enjoy them while you can...they pass much too quickly. :-(
