If the story behind this song is true, it's really cool. Singer-songwriter Sarah Bareilles (bah-REL-ess) is finishing up her first major label CD for Sony/Epic when one of the record label suits tells her that the CD needs a "love song."
So, Sarah wrote "Love Song" and it's becoming a pretty big hit (as far as I'm concerned). If you live in Central Indiana, you can hear this song played quite regularly on WTTS FM 92.3 (my favorite station in town), but you can also listen to it on Sarah's web page by clicking here.
Here are the lyrics...enjoy...
Head under water
And they tell me to breathe easy for a while
The breathing gets harder, even I know that
You made room for me but it's too soon to see
If I'm happy in your hands
I'm unusually hard to hold on to
Blank stares at blank pages
No easy way to say this
You mean well,
but you make this hard on me
-CHORUS-
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's
Make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today
I learned the hard way
That they all say things you want to hear
And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and
Your twisted words,
Your help just hurts
You are not what I thought you were
Hello to high and dry
Convinced me to please you
Made me think that I need this too
I'm trying to let you hear me as I am
(chorus)
Promise me that you'll leave the light on
To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone
'cause I believe there's a way you can love me
Because I say
I won't write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
Is that why you wanted a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If your heart is nowhere in it
I don't want it for a minute
Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that
There's a reason to
Write you a love song today

I love this song, especially now that I know the story.
What a great story, love the song!
Sounds kind of like the story behind Amy Winehouse's song Rehab. She was told to go to rehab but instead she wrote the song and its a hit now. Its the new theme song (kind of) for the medical drama "House".

That whole Amy Winehouse story is interesting. I love that song as it sounds like nothing you hear on the radio today. It's just ironic that about a week ago she finally entered a rehab clinic. She said, "Yes. Yes. Yes."
NOTE TO EVERYONE ELSE: You will have to know that song to get what Wani and I are talking about. Sorry.
I love that!
What a great song. I've never heard of her before but I'm not exactly that up on what's going on so...
i love that song!! i just saw the video for it, the other day!!! it's an awesome song!!!
oh, i had to come visit...i love your wifes blog...yours is ok, too ;)
have an awesome day!
i agree with sniz...i love the song now that i know the story too....i think it is kinda rude that producers can just walk up to the singer/songwriter and tell them that they need to write a certain kind of song or they are pretty much fired. honestly, the singer has a harder job, diva or not. The producer doesnt have to go out in front of ppl and sing so why critisize the star....i LOVE the song though!
Hey there, I-heart-Johnnydepp. I just wanted you to know that two comments came through on this post and I'm guessing you didn't mean for that to happen. They were very similar, so I just picked one. I hoped that's ok. Thanks for visiting.
